Author's Preface

Idonea may have survived the first date, but it isn’t without some damage. She rushes to her residence and crumbles onto her apartment's fake wooden floor. The change came quickly. She had no time to remove her clothes. Her clothes are ripped to shreds by the sheer size of her wolfly shape. She looks just like a wolf but bigger, maxing two hundred pounds and some change. Even the biggest breed of dog is smaller than her wolf form. Her sheer size is what makes it easy for her to rally the dogs together when she takes them out into the woods. Lots of owners think she is just taking them on a hike; she just plays pack hunts with a bunch of dogs. Thankfully, dogs have an in-grain sense to follow whoever is the strongest or the boldest.
Now, she didn’t feel so in control of her lusty hunger. It had been over millennium since she lost control of her transformation due to her emotions. This is what pups deal with, not a werewolf that is over a thousand years old.
Here she is with her control crumbling, and she bristles her beautiful maroon fur in agitation. Her fur is as red as her hair, with a patch of tan fur along her chest and legs. Her paws are even lighter, with sharp black nails that stick out against the white. She is more of a beautiful wolf than a beautiful human, as some of her wolf companions would tell her. Until she started to flex or snarl at them for making the comment in the first place. She is doing exactly that now, agitated that she didn’t have the answers to these symptoms. Pacing around her futon, she finds no comfort within her to rest. Answers are required, not sleep.
Eventually, a crazy plan came to mind, one that involves being stealthy. It is crazy but she is going to find where he lives and snoop around this strange human. Who was he and why does he make me feel so stupid?!
She had to figure it out or it might drive her insane. So, she tries to shift back but her body won't let her. Fine, she will just have to go about her sleuthing differently. Her head swivels to grab and rip off any remainder fabric off her furry body, leaving it on the floor for her to pick up later. Then she pads over to the window. That window mechanism rolled outward on one side so all she had to do is clumsily grab the handle by the mouth and roll it. Pawing it gently after to get it moving till the whole window is open. Her whole head peaks out of the window, panting. Yellow piercing eyes scanning for anyone on the roads. Seeing none, she hops right out the window.
A werewolf can fall from great heights and not be in pain. She lands on the sidewalk with grace from three flights. The only issue is she didn't notice her landlady is just peeking out her window.
The shrill screaming is what she hears before the sickening smell of cigarettes wafts into Idonea's nose. Her head whips to see her landlady at the window, screaming and waving a fist in the air.
"Get out!? Mizernej cokl!?"
Translation, miserable mutt. Idonea's ears flatten on her skull, her black lip twitching to display her sharp teeth. Only to quickly remember that her landlady will surely go to her room now to make sure that it isn't ' her dog ' she is hiding. A whimper escapes her throat.
This might be the end of my residence... oh well. She lopes away from the apartment, the ramblings of a crazy landlady growing distant. She had one goal in mind, and it is to follow the sweet scent that makes her so weak under it.
The she-wolf follows this scent for so long that the roads became woods, and she starts to run around with less fear of being seen by a human. It is weird that his trail leads out to the farthest parts of the town, it takes her wolf legs an hour to even start to see a house with an MR2 parked in front of it. This house is a ranch-styled one, massive with a couple rooms worth of space. Picket fence that is painted red rope all along the house. He had an exceptionally long paved driveway that she can follow right up to the house to get a closer view. The house is paneled brown with black shingles and a white front door, two floors high. There are a few lit windows on the first floor, suggesting that Leas is still awake in the house. She paces at the first window she saw, craning her wolf head up to peek in.
Idonea really can’t see past the curtains, but her ears catch the sound of footsteps and the TV playing the Late Late show. The man is on the move, his footsteps growing more distant as if he is moving around to the other room. Her wolf self moves to the next window.
There is a gap between the curtains that shows the kitchen. She cautiously lifts her head a fraction to study this kitchen. Her heart pumps when her sight is fills with the beautiful visage of a shirtless Leas Brennan. He isn't kidding about taking his physique, his muscle definition is certainly too drool after. A long torso full of rock-hard muscles, rippling back muscles and a six pack for a stomach. Leas’ freckly pecks with hair growing along the curvature of his chest and crevices of his pectorals. A lovely hair trail went from his belly button and past the elastic band of his black pajama pants. His tattoos ran past his forearms to the bulge of his biceps and upward to his shoulders. The trail of tattoos met at the back of his neck bone and flow down to his spine. All tattoos of Nordic meaning, with the same dark bold color as the one she fancied on him at their date. He looks sexy enough to eat, even the distant look on his face as he washes some mugs at the sink made him more beautiful. Even as he is about to turn around to move towards the window.
Shit!? She ducks her head; her ears press against her furry scalp while her hackles raise from all the excitement. She can hear him open the window. Sinking down on her belly and pressing her side against the house, she will hope that the darkness and this human's lack of senses that he won’t notice her. She hears him sigh next, muttering a name under his breath. One she did not outwardly expect to hear him say aloud.
"Idonea..." Thinking she had been caught by hearing her name spooks her enough to act. She bounds forward, away from the window in a panic. It is a grave mistake, with him now alert and she didn't need to be so certain that he had found out her secret. "Hello?!"
She hides in the bushes. If she can curse at her folly she would. Instead, Nea sits very still in hopes that he will just shrug it off and go away.
No...this human is stupid. He retreats to his house only to return with a flashlight, pointing the light around. This man finds her footprints on the dirt, the raise of his brow a sign that he is deciphering this clue. First thought slips out of his pretty mouth, "A dog?"
Seriously, that's your conclusion!? Idonea had enough with people thinking she is a dog. But that's the first thing that people of Ireland should expect since there are no wolves. She can hear her own heart racing as this man retreats from the window again. A lot of nothing happens and she thought that maybe he decides to let this 'dog' go. Taking this chance to leave, she stalks right out of the bushes, padding back to the front of the house, fighting to decide whether to stay or go. She didn't expect Leas to be right at his front door with a flashlight and a bowl of water. He wears his plaid pattern slippers out there.
The fuck!? Her body freezes stiff, her piercing eyes shifting from Leas to the bowl of water. So, in awe of this kind of reaction that she forgets to hide. He beams the light on her, blinding her awake, and she backs away in a panic.
"No, it's okay! I am not here to hurt you." He slowly knelt, leaving the clean bowl of water on the ground for her. She stares at the bowl, thirsty but not enough to get close. She's stupid for getting caught in the first place.
"I am a friend." He flashes her a sweet smile, all his white teeth showing, the longing for some companionship darkening his purple pools. Her hackles lowers and she slacken her posture, keeping her head low with folded ears. Her tail lazily wags, seeing his sweet smile always broke down her tough front. A lot of nothing happens and she finally decides to sit on her haunches. Watching him intensely, she had only one choice now and it is to play like a lost dog. If he thinks she is wild, he might call animal control.
Ugh, this is so embarrassing... To play a lost dog, she needs to act pathetic. She lowers her whole body to the ground, whimpering and wagging her fluffy tail. She then rolls on her back, playing the typical submissive play she'd see in the dogs she walked in the past. It screamed that "I trust you enough to show my belly, please rub it.”
It agitates her that she had to resort to being a proud wolf. But her mind changes when she hears him close in and felt his fingers boldly run along her chest to belly. Her tail genuinely wags this time, loving his touch even in this form. Her tongue lolls out while panting in excitement.
"You're really a cute pup. Someone will definitely be missing you." He increases the petting, making her legs kick.
Ugh...it feels good. She rolls over to change to where he pets. Now his hands rake through her double coat. She whimpers when he stops to see him pointing to the water bowl.
"Drink lovely."
Oh right. She pads right over and lap at the clean water, remembering that she is still thirsty. Again, she is angry that a human assumes correctly. At least none of her werewolf family will see her in this state.
He stands up to watch her, his smile huge. "Very smart too. Come inside with me."
Her body quakes at the command. Looking up at him with a tilt of her head. He can't seriously be trying to take a stray in, even one that looks more like a wolf than a dog. She is so tempted to turn back into a human just so she can chastise him. To tell he can't just endanger himself with a potential wild animal like that. But looking at his happy and expectant face right after, he kept the door open for her. It just didn't seem right to disappoint him, even her grumpy immortal soul will agree. She pads her way in, inspecting every wall of this house with just her gaze. The floor covered with beige carpet to this hallway and leads out to the living room on her right. This living room had the Late Late show playing on his giant tube. The couches there are black leather with fleecy purple blankets draping over them. He must hang out on the couch often based on how turn over the blankets are. To her left is the kitchen, with white counter tops and blue marbling. This first floor alone is massive, and she can see a flight of steps going both up and down to the basement.
"Come here puppy."
