Author's Preface

Her ear twitches to his call, turning around to see him kneel before her. He is still very shirtless, and her heart pitter patter at the sight. He had no idea at all that this wolf is the same woman that nearly took advantage of his body earlier. Like a pervert that she had become, she is feeling guiltier by the second. Falling back into her sinful acts and obeying his call. She sat down close, tail wagging behind her. He chuckles at her eagerness, petting her neck fluff to get close enough to inspect her. He curls his brow, finding nothing. "No collar? Hmm?"
That's because I am a damn werewolf! You dolt!? Her rational head screams to end this embarrassment, but her body is doing the exact opposite of what her rational mind requests. Out of sheer bliss and disregarding common decency, she licks his face. The sweetness of his aroma fills her nostrils. It riled her enough to keep going even though he weakly retorts with a laugh as endearing as his smile.
I am the biggest idiot here.
"Okay... okay. It looks like you'll be staying with me till your owners come looking."
No, I must go back....like now!?
The male pushes her body down and stands up, beaming one ear to the next. "You hungry? I got some cured salmon leftover from my lunch?"
Her belly growls. If it is food made by him, she must try it. Her tail wags while panting excessively. She is that excited to feast on some salmon.
"I guess you understand me." He chuckles at her eagerness, walking towards the kitchen. She cautiously follows, stopping just at where the carpet ends, and where the marbling squares begin. Idonea sat right down, watching him work on a bowl of what appears to be full of salmon. Her jaws pools with drool, and she licked any that slips. She should be more ashamed that she is letting her hunger get the best of her. So, she curls up on the ground, keeping her eyes away from him and allowing them to travel about the house. It is huge for just one person. Why would he want this much space and seclusion? She can understand the seclusion. Being that he keeps his image as a radio host a secret. But the size of it didn’t make sense, it just feels too lonely for one person. Is his sadness a side effect of living alone in such a big house?
"Here pup." He plops down a delicious full glass bowl of cured salmon. He smiles at her, sending electricity through her body. His smile goads her to eat. So, she stands up to munch at the cured salmon pieces. It is good enough to devour it in seconds.
"Hmm. Your fur is as red and pretty...like Idonea's." He watches her the whole time. His comparison made her ear twitch, but there is no way he can tell that it is really Idonea in wolf form. She is just going to have to stay naive.
Licking the bowl clean, he takes it away to wash. His face had a tinge of sadness as he said, "It's silly, but your presence and smell remind me of a woman that I am seeing...I'm afraid I might have ruined things between us."
Smell?! Idonea gulps, wondering if maybe the conditioner she used never diluted. She even turns her wet nose to check. Even though she sprinted through the woods, there is still a soft hint of lilac underneath the woodsy smell. It makes sense that she can smell it...but because he is able to have risen some mental alarms. He has a way better sense of smell than...perceived.
As she scrutinizes him, suddenly the need to get answers got snuffed from the larger need to comfort the sad mortal. She lowers her head, sneak over to the male to lean against his leg. It isn't all his fault how things turned out; she just didn’t have any self-control apparently…even now.
"Haha, seriously. You are very smart. There's no time to wallow now." He wipes his hands clean from the water and pets her head. "Come to bed. I am going to need the rest to find your owners!"
Eep...bed!? Her heart pounds to her ears, being in his room before initiating a committed relationship is making her mind spiral. Nea stays put instead of following him.
"What's wrong pup?" He eyes her more than the steps, a couple of glances later he figures out a problem that isn't hers. "Ah! You must be afraid of steps! Well...I'll carry you."
What but I weigh too- It didn't matter, he carries her up the flight of steps. When he reaches the floor level he wants, he places her down with a chuckle. Not even a glint of sweat is present. "See? Not so scary."
What the hell? A normal human can't carry two hundred pounds up a flight of steps and not strain. This is very odd; she lifts her nose to speculatively to take a whiff. He smells as sweet and alluring as ever, but no sign of otherworldly involvement. He certainly didn’t smell like her kind, and he certainly lacks the skills of a werewolf. He struggles to see at night, and he will realize by now that she is a werewolf with just smell alone. It begs the question that he might be something else, but that's crazy. The only other supernatural beings she ever met are vampires...and they are just a human-born infection. Awful things.
He didn’t shy away from the sun, so that means he is not a vampire. With all her thinking, she notices that he had already walks off and enters one of the doors up there. He whistles for her to come; she nearly snarls to herself for going for it in the end. She trots into his room and freezes just to look at every part of it.
Beige walls, with two windows on the side, and posters of bands that he must have liked in large picture frames. The room is big enough for a Californian king-sized bed, oddly too large for just one person, and full of pillows. On one side of the room is a mannequin wearing the furred-speckled coat that she saw him wear on the first time they met. Ignoring the male that is looking through his closet for something, she trots up the mannequin and sniffs at the fur. He mentions it being made of seals, which explains some of the distant scent of one.
But why is it so strange? It’s just fur...weirdo. Her wolf nose wrinkles up. The time she had with the coat is shortened by one persistent male.
"You can't have that, my pretty pup." The beautiful man hugs a comforter in his arms and grins. "That is worth more than my career. Not to worry!"
He adjusts the comforter on one side of the bed. Suggesting that he intends to have her lie on his bed.
Seriously, I am going to have to correct his trustworthiness.
"You'll be sleeping in a comfortable bed tonight, what a lucky girl!" He is more excited than her about it, patting the extra comforter straight on top of the bed. He tries his very best to hint to her that this is going to be her spot for the night. He yawns then with an equally exhausted stretch of his body. "Not the company that I expected, but certainly a fun one. Maybe Idonea would know who your owners are?"
Oh no... I must go back. Her ears rest hard on her skull; tail tucking between her legs. That triggers Leas to come to her and pet her head, looking genuinely concerned. "What spooked you, pup? Is this bed too high for you too?"
Him saying so wakes her from the moment of anxiety. She had to play the part of a lost dog, at least till he fell asleep. Once he is unconscious, she can slip out at night and return to her apartment. It is the only way she can get out of this situation.
She licks his hand then hops onto the side of the bed, noting how her body sank into the mattress. It is so comfortable, she huffs in satisfaction all the sudden feeling the entire day weighing down on her.
"Never mind then", He chuckles, walking around the mattress to what must be his side of the bed. He lays right down, covering his half naked body beneath the blanket. He sighs just like her, "Going to bed never gets old. But I always fear that I will wake up one day having to go away again... if you catch my drift?"
She flicks her ear, listening but having no way to respond. Even if she can, she finds his statement so strange to pause. What is it about his lifestyle outside of Kilkeel that he cannot stand?
"Maybe it's crazy for me to ask a dog about the unfairness of life obligations. Just stay a happy little dog, it's better for you that way." He shuts the lights off with a room controller and snuggle into his bed. The bed is big enough to fit two more people, but her heart still races while remembering that she is in Leas's room. He ends it with this, "Good night pup. I hope to see you tomorrow morning..."
Her heart pangs at his words, thinking what real reason she had to leave his side now. She can sense how excited he is to have some company, even one that is as furry as hers.
I'll give you the morning, then I am leaving. Her snout snorts with her newfound resolution. Maybe if she stays, she can see how he works. That had always been eating at her mind.
Sleep did not come for her for some time. Her eyes study her roommate for a while. Focusing on the way he allows sleep to take over, how he prefers to stretch out his limbs versus curling up. How he eventually discards his blanket and some of the pillows.
Gosh he's restless... She scoffs, crawling to him just to try to tuck the blanket over him. Kind of hard with no hands since she had to use her jaw. Getting this close proves to be dangerous. He wraps his arm over her, with the strength of a thousand men, he reels her furry body to him. His freckly face shoves into her furry mane; her heart halts at the shock.
What is he doing!? He seems to settle into this newfound position, cuddling her unconsciously. His aroma and touch sent shockwaves within her, the wrong kind of shock waves. She tried to slip out, but he held on stronger.
To keep herself grounded, she stares at the mannequin and count the seconds. There is no way he can keep this up all night, right? Eventually, he will need to change positions.
His light snoring shows otherwise, and doom set in. She is going to be stuck like this all night.
Gods...help me...
Strange enough, Leas’s embrace made her feel so safe. He smells and feels so good close, like she won’t have it any other way. Her tail wags lazily, resting her head on her front legs.
...This is kind of nice. It reminds the wolf of the time her pack would cuddle out in the wilderness to stay warm. This felt just the same with the added affliction of pure attraction. Why am I fighting this feeling?
She thinks this with a low grumble resonating in her throat. Snorting pathetically when she comes to only one conclusion... he is a mortal . Their attraction will only be fleeting to her. For him, he will see it otherwise, he will grow old and die before her eyes like many other mortals she met in her life. And there is nothing that she can change about that.
Nothing .
