‘ I am immortal, while tho art
One of those that must die!’
One night she spoke again, with big eyes and a heavy heart:
‘My Lord, I do not know how to ask so my words are clear, are you a real God or just a specter in my dreams?’
‘I am an endless Lord, Lucifer, God of the stars, god of the night, the moon and waves.’
‘Then come visit me when I’m awake! How shall I know if you are real or just a dream? Come when it’s day, make me your bride, take me away!’
‘But darling, I’m immortal and you are one that dies, the Lord of Time forbid us to ever touch you kind! I cannot come, I cannot be your groom, our love will stay in sleep.’
‘Then become human, as I am, and we can be together until destiny takes away our breath. My heart longs to touch you when the sun is up, to see you in the light of day. I want to be your wife, not just a sweet dream in the night.’
‘Great deal you ask of me, my love, you want me to renounce my seat in the sky, my endlessness, to be reborn from sin, to die.’
‘Yes, I do ask you, for love, to do a sacrifice.’ She said with passion, ‘What is your forever life if you are alone, cold, and empty of love? Without love, you’re just a carcass, without emotion, you are just a moving corpse between your stars, a ghost, a specter. You are bound with chains of eternity.’
‘Then I shall free myself, I’ll lose my immortality, I’ll show you just how fiercely I’ve come to love you.’
And so I left her, many nights I traveled to the end of the spheres, to the sire of all things, Lord Time.’
Meanwhile, the house boy, a steward, an orphan who served the Queen, my lover's mother, since he was just a little boy, sly and bold, like a thief, sneaked into my princess’s view and said:
‘My dear princess, how beautiful you’ve grown, like a flower, like the brightest star you glow!’
Katherine, my lover, knew the boy since they were kids; she knew he jests a lot and plays with maidens' hearts since he grew into a handsome lad. He had blond hair and eyes as blue as the sky; he was an orphan boy, a servant, but he looked like a charming prince.
‘What do you want, Callum? Leave me alone at once! I’m not interested in your games, I’m not a clueless girl.’ She responded, not impressed.
‘Oh darling, princess, please give me a dance, just one, and I promise I’ll leave you then. You are enchanting, dear, your beauty haunts my dreams, I shall not stop until I get at least one kiss.’
And every night as balls took place in the great Kingdom where my princess lived, he’ll ask and ask until one night.
‘Leave me alone!’ she said again. ‘I have but one love only, Lucifer, the lord of night is my heart’s desire.’
‘Katherine, my darling princess, don’t be so naïve, he is a God, you are a human, such love will never thrive. Become my lover, please, and I shall give you what you wish, my hands will caress you, my lips will kiss your skin.’
And at his sly words, thoughts and doubts crept into my lover's mind. He was handsome, he was charming, and most importantly, he was real, while Lucifer was just a specter in her dreams.
She danced with Callum and let him kiss her cheeks and lips; she thought I’ll never know.
‘Come, Callum, for a few nights, I shall be yours, you shall be mine, but know one thing: my love for the God of Night is endless, and never will be yours.’
‘My dear flower, you must long for your kin, humans like you, that yearn the same for you back, not a cold immortal God that will never love you the same. I’ll do. They are undying, they know not fear nor passion, we fight and die for love, for him, you’re just a passing thought.’
‘Maybe that’s true …’ was all she said.
