Chapter 1

"Bring it here!" The man yelled, his voice muffled by the sudden downpour. The clouds roaring from time to time, illuminating the sky. Police line covered the entire parameter. Sirens wailing in the distance fused with raindrops to produce a weeping like sound. Hot red liquid diluted by the flow of water, seeping into the darkness and everything below. Nobody wept, nobody screamed and yet everyone came to a silent agreement, a pact for the soul of the dead.

Hushed voices ambient within the vicinity.

"I heard the people who saw the body collapsed from shock."

"Was it really that bad?" Someone asked.

"Apparently his eyes were gouged out, and his organs were protruding out from his body."

"How can someone, no, how could a human ever do something like that?!"

"Hey, I've heard a detective is on the way."

"About damn time! What's the hold up anyways?"

"I bet you it's that famous detective. What was her name again? Oh right, Thera."

"Haven't you heard...?"

"Heard what?"

"The killer, they've already found her. It's Thera, the legendary detective."

Warm, yellow light peaked through the curtains. Nothing like the thunderstorm from the night before. Puddles of murky water still present on the street down below.

Pile of papers stacked upon each other, looking dejected just like the man residing in his small office. A rectangle metal plate sitting atop his desk, 'Neev Anderson' engraved upon it, slightly rusting from the sides. A red mug filled with dark cold coffee still sitting on his desk from the night before, one that he never got to enjoy.

"Sir," A voice bellowed from outside accompanied by a knock. "May I enter?"

"You may." Replied Neev, his voice husky after being awake for what felt like weeks. The man entered, noticing the lack of sunlight he walked towards the edge of the room. Parting the dark piece of fabric enshrouding the window.

"Why is it that you enjoy living like a corpse?"

"Marlin, I don't have time for this. Did you find what I asked for?" Neev asked, rubbing his template.

"Yes, strange as it may sound, it seems Detective Thera only has one living relative. Her niece."

"Contact her right away."

"Yes sir. Although, be aware that she is attempting to become a detective just like her aunt."

"Is that so? Then let's find out whether brutality runs in their blood."
