Section 2

May 22nd, 2026

“What is this your first date? Nobody ever taught you how to dress before?” Betty states while trying to fix up my collar a little. In my mind I’m dressed a bit too fancy for the theatre, I know I’m dressed too fancy, but she insisted.

“It’s called being casual. And I don’t know if Owen likes guys,” I point out quickly, there is a slightly nervous tint to my voice.

“Well he clearly does, what with asking you out and all,” Betty smiles. Her teeth flash; they are on the very bright side of things.

Betty was one of the popular kids back when we were in high school and in a lot of ways she still sees herself that way. She can’t be blamed for this when she’s worked as an extra in a few commercials, kind of living out my slight acting dreams, however light they may be.

She has a small and thin frame, being shorter then even I am, but she’s often full of energy and spunk so she’s never seen as weak by any means. And even if she could fall into a crowed with the people around her, she spends on herself very well, wearing stunning outfits. She has a good numbers of piercings, tongue, ears, nose, to stand out further. She has even said she would have her eyes tattooed if she could. Currently that’s not legal around here and to be honest I’m thankful. I can’t even put on contacts.

Her hair is much the same: showy. A big, puffy, dash of red surrounds her face with her eyes being a soft green. Sometimes she will bight her lip when she is nervous but it’s a habit that takes a long time to show itself as she is always on the more brighter and energetic side. Boastful is a very fitting word here.

“And it’s been awhile since I went out,” I add to the current conversation we are having.

She gives me another look over. Typically, I would have a thicker shirt on; a hoodie or a sweater, to cover myself. My compression sports bra is still doing it’s job well enough, but with the lighter fabrics on me I do have a bit of a curve to my upper half. I’m not sure if that is adding to my nervous feeling, likely not. Likely it’s just me working outside of my comfort bubble. Despite how Betty has me dressed I know she has the best intents in mind.

We’re in my apartment just before I’m supposed to go out and meet with Owen, and she’s fussing over me as much as she can. Since I told her I was seeing the show with a friend at my gaming group that I joined, she’s been more excited about it then I’ve been. She has been giving me all kinds of ‘tips’ as she would say for making a good impression, as if I were a little child.

“Ya, must have been a long while. You’re not much, but you’re good enough for now. The best I can do at least,” she counters to my statement.

“Thanks a bunch,” I say with obvious sarcasm.

“You excited?” Betty asks.

“Ya, it should be a good movie.”

“About the date? What we’ve been going over for the full day,” she sounded oddly disappointed.

“That too.”

“Good. You’re such a, how do I put this, introvert all to Hell kind of a guy.”

“It still won you over well enough didn’t it?”

“You’re cute and I’m vain, that’s what won me over. That and I like me a challenge.”

“I hope you like the competition.”

“I’m all for it,” Betty laughs.

If Betty ever did have a crush on me, it faded away a long time ago. She had moved out of Deer Port the same time I left, the only other person I had from back home, the last sign from my old life. She’s basically been a mom to me while I’ve been here. My actual mom and dad, I care for them deeply, but distance has its impacts. I have stayed in contact as much as I can by phone. I did call my mom on Mother’s Day of course, don’t worry about that. Got her a good gift too, if you have to you know.

With my appearance getting Betty’s wink of approval I make sure to give her a good luck hug and then I’m on my way.

--

We walked out of the theater. It was an earlier showing so it was dark out, but not scary-dark yet. There is a soft blue to the night sky, it’s peaceful and charming.

“Damn,” Owen said. He had liked Obsession, especially the ending, which was what was getting the damn out of him.

“Damn is right,” I said right back.

He touches my arm, getting me a bit by surprise, his hand cold against me. He points to a Harvey’s across the road. I smile to myself, that’s not to costly, as low class as it can get. Nice and relaxing kind of place and I’m on the hungry side.

We get in the place and, after a bit of an awkward stand-around as we get our food, each of us paying for ourselves, we sit down.

“Out of ten, your rating?” I ask Owen.

“Nine. Hell of a date movie,” he responds.

“Eight point five from me. And ya, but I kind of like that kind of movie,” I point out and then there is some silence.

It’s true. I’ve come to call it romantic satire horror. Guy likes girl, girl likes guy, they end up killing each other, the end.

“And what are you rating this date so far?” he asked after I have a drink of my diet pop.

I drink the thing a little to fast and cough a bit. I look over him again, his eyes being a bit hopeful. He’s nice, this was fun. I’ll be honest. Ya, that’s always the best way to go about things.

“Ya, I’m having a good time. Maybe an eight, been awhile,” I say.

“Good to know I can improve,” he smiles back.

After that it’s mostly small talk on the film and life, but it’s a good talk. He does ask me about meeting up outside of the Saturday game again, and on the third time he has me at his place watching an old horror movie on streaming that I demanded we put on, Stepford Wives. And at that point it was clear that we were dating.

Well, if it wasn’t clear before it really hits me when his hand touches me for a light hold and when he kisses me at the door before I go. His eyes linger on me and I don’t mind, not one bit.

“He had it programmed onto his phone,” I try to explain to the call receptionist on my cell as I sat my back against the cupboard of the bathroom floor.

Levi’s bathroom is a lot like the rest of his house, it’s very small, despite the place being multi-leveled. No bathtub, just a shower. There is a smell here, it’s musty, damp. A dead fly rests on the ground beside my bare leg, the dress not coming down far enough to protect me. I shift myself slightly away from it and thankfully it’s not close to my leg with the towel pulled tightly around it. I don’t want to think about how bad Levi tore me up.

“What was programmed onto his phone?” the woman asks. She had said the police and the ambulance were on their way.

The ambulance: I needed them bad, obviously. The cuts on my leg were deep, too deep. But the police, Levi was dead. They were coming far too late. I needed them yesterday.

I still couldn’t believe I had done it though. Would I be arrested for this? It was in self defence, but they still needed to investigate and all of that. Still needed to ask me a hundred questions. Pry around and look me over three or four times. They wouldn’t trust me, I knew police. Everyone knows the police.

“What did he have programmed onto his cell Henry?” the receptionist asked.

“He thought it was me,” I say and I start sobbing all over again.

“What did he think was you?” she was already prying.

“It was a chat bot, on his phone. Fucking hell, he thought it was me!” my voice was cracking.

“A chat bot?” she said like she didn’t know what an AI program was.

“Ya, I don’t believe it either.”

“Henry, just keep yourself calm, the police will be there any minute.”

I try to do as she asks. I hug myself, hold myself tight against the bathroom cupboard. The pink, small, horrid, dress Levi made me wore is too thin, it keeps me cold. I’m freezing, my body shaking like a small animal. I’m scared and alone. The only real comfort is the knowledge that Levi is dead now and this nightmare is almost over.

Of course new panic lets itself be known when the police do arrive. I would call out to them that I was in the bathroom but I hear the gunfire, I hear the screams of intense pain and the brutalization of their bodies. I know then that Levi is still alive and he’s doing the same thing to the cops that he has done over and over again. He’s making them suffer, it’s just what he does now. It might be all that he is now. It might be all he ever was. I become lost in that fear as the police officers’ screams tamper off. They’re dead. More officers will come, but the ones here to save me are dead now.

How could Levi still be alive after what I did to him? Could he be killed? Or was he some kind of living, breathing, nightmare now. I had locked the door of the bathroom. He’ll know I’m in here when he checks it.

“Henry, are you okay?” the receptionist asks.

I hang up the phone. I can’t keep talking. I have to stay silent or Henry will find me and kill me. Or he’ll do something worse. He’ll still think I’m her.

Freeman I: Hey! Amber just had a cold. That’s why she stopped eating, she’s fine.

Levss: Really good to hear. I was on pins and needles.

Freeman I: Ya, me too.

Levss: At least that Owen has your back.

Freeman I: Oh ya, massive help. We’ve been getting along really well. He just called checking in on me.

Levss: And happy birthday!

Freeman I: Pretty close. It’s the 12th.

Levss: I’m sure he’s planning to get you the whole nine yards, Owen I mean. Like if he’s a good guy and all. Chocolate, a dinner out, some perfume. All that kind of stuff.

Deleted before sending-

Freeman I: Levi, we need to talk a bit. Owen wouldn’t get me perfume or that because I’m trans.

Freeman I: Owen isn’t that kind of guy. Not a big romantic, thankfully. I’m not really into being pampered like that.

Levss: Sorry to hear about that, you deserve that kind of guy. It’s good to be pampered.

Freeman I: My mom’s calling me. I’ll be right back. 😉

I have the heart-shaped box open on the table before us and I’m cramming as many of the things down into my mouth as I can. Yes, Levi had guessed correctly that Owen had got me chocolate, but he was of course wrong on the other accounts and I was sure the heart shape of said box was to be taken purely as a joke. Besides for the chocolates (a mix of whites and dark blacks) he also got me diet pops, a M3GAN keychain, and a very cool looking dice set. Said dice were a dark red with yellow numbers, of course meant to seem like a dragon’s fire breath. Lastly, he bought me pizza for a night in. It was the meat-lover’s kind with cheese in the crust. It wouldn’t have been my pick, but it was a surprise. For sure not going all-out but I didn’t want anything more.

We were on the couch now, trying to decide what to put on. I could feel his body slide into me a little as he slipped a chocolate out of the box and then quickly tossed it into his mouth. That one was a white chocolate, which was for sure the one he favoured. He kissed my shoulder and then promptly made a film suggestion.

“Candyman,” he said.

“Obviously I’ve seen Candyman. What kind of horror fan do you take me for?” I state back with a smile. This was true, though I had only seen the first one.

“Then, Warm Bodies.”

“I’ve seen that too, but it’s a beloved classic,” I press play on the film and it starts up.

He’s still by my side and kisses my shoulder again. His kisses are on the soft side, I hardly notice them. I slide back into the couch, of his apartment, not mine, and when I do his lips slide to mine. It’s nice, I close my eyes for a moment and get lost in it. His kisses on my body are cute, but a kiss with his lips to mine: they are much better. It’s easy to just have the moment take me over. But when the moment passes I slowly open my eyes. I have a light smile on my face, maybe looking like I’m a bit drunk but I’m of course not. He doesn’t look the same.

“You,…” he pauses and turns to the film.

I press pause on the remote and then look back at him.

“I what?” I ask.

“You don’t ever kiss back. I keep kissing you, but you don’t ever make a move on me. Like, we haven’t really done much of anything yet,” Owen says.

I pause; I wasn’t expecting that at all. “We haven’t talked about any of that yet.”

“Most people don’t talk,” he says back. I don’t think he’s upset but it’s hard to read him.

“But they’re supposed to,” I respond, starting to get turned around, starting to get nervous.

“Ya, but it’s hard to talk when you can’t keep your hands off of each other. Like, don’t you just want me to take you?”

“Take me?” I ask. There is this confusion to my voice and I feel silly.

“Second base, we can at least go that far, haven’t heard of a couple not doing that by this point. I get that you are shy so I’m not going to press you or anything, but all this cold shoulder stuff is just throwing me off.”

“We’ve kissed and touched plenty.”

“I’ve kissed you. That’s the point I’m making.”

“Okay, I’ll kiss back, and we can go to second base, and, no… you’re not pressuring me.”

“You’re like twenty-eight. How could I be pressuring you anyways?” he says with a small smile.

“What does it matter how old I am?”

“It doesn’t matter. I didn’t mean that.”

“What did you mean?”

“You shouldn’t feel any pressure because we’re dating and we both want this. I know I want this,” his hand moves up to my cheek, touching it softly. I can feel his hands locking around my hair, like he’s going to jerk me into him. He’s holding tightly, this is to tightly.

I’m looking at him now, confused and turned around. I don’t want to watch the movie anymore. I don’t want to be here anymore. He’s touching my hair too tightly and I don’t like it. I want to get out; I need to get out. I’m standing up like the couch was on fire.

“Don’t be like that. I, I wasn’t thinking. That was too much and I went too far,” he protests.

I start to move for the door but I stop myself.

“I’m sorry. We can watch the movie,” I say back and then turn right around.

I sit myself back down and we turn back on the film. We sit there for a long time. After forty minutes in he kisses my shoulder again and his hand feels up my thigh. I kiss him back that time. My mouth softly pecks the top of his head. After that he looks at me again, that stunned little stare.

“Are you tucking me in to sleep?” he jokes.

I kiss him hard then on the lips. I feel like I have something to prove. My lips go hard against his and then I can feel his tongue touch my upper gums. That causes me to move back slightly.

“I wont pressure you anymore. That was, really not cool of me,” Owen says as he pulls back.

Was I just not good enough of a kisser?

May 10th, 2026

I was just starting to get the spaghetti sauce on when the phone rang. Yes, this shit was terrible for the diet, but it had now been three weeks and both me and the hubby had lost a good handful of pounds, we had earned this cheat day. I looked over the cooking meat, taking careful note of the time but still setting an alarm with the clock close to the oven.

After setting the timer the phone right by me kicked into life. I swiftly answered it. “Happy Mother’s Day!” came a voice out of it, nice and clear, brightening my day.

“Oh hey Henry!” I say back quickly with a chipper voice that bleeds through.

“You should be getting my gift to you in like a few days. It just got shipped or so the email says,” his voice adds.

“You didn’t have to get me anything,” I protest lightly.

“Ya I did.”

“So how is your work going?”

“It’s a good school. The kids like me,” he points out.

“That’s good.”

“I got them reading Lord of the Flies right now.”

“Even I remember that one. Way to dark for schools.”

“But everyone reads it.”

“Ya, everyone reads it, most of the time. I cheated in my English class.”

“Mom!”

“My parents weren’t the best and you had to do well by them. It’s just how things were with my family.”

Henry had never met my parents and my father had passed away six years ago, two years after my mom had. For the first while I was tempted to reconnect with them as a new mom, but I questioned it, decided not to. When Henry came out of the closet I knew I had made the right call. He didn’t deserve how my parents would have treated him. I still remember the belt with my brother. He never brought it to me, but I heard it, you couldn’t not hear it. I shiver a bit.

“Met anyone new?” I changed the subject.

“I joined a table top game group. Dungeons and Dragons kind of thing,” he said.

“Oh, well that sounds fun,” I have no idea what it is he’s referring to.

“It looks to be.”

Henry didn’t get out that much and it was one of my worries for him. He was still good with people, he was a teacher, but he kind of just had to be for the job’s sake. When he came out as trans the questions did come if he liked boys or girls. He had said both, but you really wouldn’t know it. I was always concerned about him being on his own, but I had to keep reminding myself that I didn’t need to be. He had been on his own forever now, but you never stop worrying as a mom. It’s your number one job after all.

Freeman I: Levi, this isn’t my current account on logdateplus. I just used this account to contact you. Can I message you with my current account?

Levss: Yes?

Henry F: This is my current account.

Deleted before sending-

Levss: You’re trans?

Henry F: I’m trans. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before. I’m just dealing with a lot.

Levss: It’s up to you who you tell. What’s going on?

Henry F: Owen, he’s been acting funny. He put the moves on me the other day and he was all complaining that we weren’t going further.

Levss: Do you want to go further with him?

Henry F: Yes, I do. It’s just been awkward till now.

Levss: Do you like boys?

Henry F: Ya, I like boys. I’m well aware of what I like and don’t like. I’m into both men and women.

Levss: But have you dated a guy before?

Henry F: I know okay.

Henry F: www.furnightsraw.com/watch?v=___video___

Levss: You didn’t have to send me porn.

Henry F: Sorry. That was really bad of me. I was just frustrated.

Levss: I didn’t mean to bother you.

Henry F: You aren’t. I was kind of just making a point that I do like men.

Levss: And bunny femboys apparently.

Henry F: Ironically unlike the norm kind of furry I only like the porn.

Levss: So not a furry.

Henry F: No, not a furry, it was just a video I liked. I wont send you any femboy bunny videos in the future, I swear.

Levss: If you don’t feel comfortable with Owen maybe you should listen to yourself.

Henry F: He’s a good guy. It’s just been awkward, that’s all. I over reacted. I don’t know why I’m so blasted shy sometimes.

Levss: Nothing wrong with being shy.

Henry F: Right. But men aren’t supposed to be shy, that’s all.

Levss: Maybe you’re just shy with Owen.

Henry F: It’s not Owen, it’s me.

Levss: Just don’t be hard on yourself. Remember that I’m always here to talk with you.

Deleted before sending-

Levss: And I know you can do better then him.

Henry F: I’m really glad you are.

Tinman3: Hey Iris. How is it going with that Owen? That boyfriend of yours. It’s me, Levi

Iris: Oh he’s wonderful Levi.

Tinman3: Last time we talked you said he wasn’t treating you right.

Iris: Ya, I thought we could work things out, but we really can’t. I’m so glad I have you Levi.

Tinman3: Sure thing, always there for you. You said you couldn’t go further with him. You weren’t into him, but he kept pressuring you.

Iris: I wouldn’t be. I got to be honest Levi, I’m into someone else.

Tinman3: You are?

Iris: Yes -blushes- I think I may have a crush on you!

Tinman3: You do!? I never knew. I kind of always liked you.

Iris: Why didn’t you tell me?

Tinman3: I was too shy. You felt way out of my league. Like back then you were gorgeous.

Iris: You should have told me. I would have been all over you. 😉

Tinman3: Iris, how do you feel about people that are trans? Like honestly.

Iris: Physical sex and someone’s gender are two different things. Sometimes sex and gender don’t match up and when that happens the person could call themselves trans and may present as a gender that is different from the physical sex they had at birth.

Tinman3: Do you think they are right? That they are a different gender?

Iris: Yes, they are right. There has been many studies on this subject. I can link you to several sources if you want.

Tinman3: What about the men that are just pretending? Like a guy that wants to sneak into a woman’s washroom?

Iris: Someone would sneak into a woman’s washroom by saying they’re trans? That’s horrible! I know you would never do that Levi.

Tinman3: No, I wouldn’t do that, but I was just pointing out how some might be pretending to be trans.

Iris: If there are people pretending to be trans then you are very right. You shouldn’t trust everyone that just says they’re trans. They could be lying.

Tinman3: Ya, that’s all I was saying Iris.

Iris: Well I’m happy to hear you out Levi.

Tinman3: And you’re a girl right?

Iris: Of course I’m a girl. I got the tits to prove it. Do you like them? 😉

Tinman3: Ya, I like them. I really like them. Forget I said anything.

Iris: Sure! What were we talking about again? Hehe.

Tinman3: You and that Owen just broke up. He wasn’t treating you right. You’re over at my place and I’m comforting you. You wont stop crying cause he was such a jerk to you. He tried to get physical with you and pressured you.

Iris: It was horrible Tinman3. He was all over me and then when I told him to get off he kicked me out.

Tinman3: My name is Levi.

Iris: I know your name silly. 😉

Tinman3: At least you’re away from Owen now. I’ll comfort you the best I can.

Iris: I know you will. You’ve always been there for me. That Owen was just horrible, trying to pressure me for sex and then kicking me out the moment he didn’t get his way.

Tinman3: I got you in my arms now, you can cry against my shoulder. Just let it all out till you feel better.

Iris: I’m crying hard. I’m pressing my head into your shoulder and I’m letting it all out. I just can’t stop crying. But while I’m lost in my tears I find my lips slipping to yours.

Tinman3: I end up kissing you back just as hard, harder.

Iris: I’m pulling up your shirt now, slipping it up and over your head. I’m tossing it across the room and I start feeling your bare chest while I keep kissing you. We’re lost in the moment.
