Adrenaline filled Umbra. She felt like she was a teenager again, going for her first interview. She put on her blue scrub, clean and pressed, not even a small wrinkle in sight. Her black hair in a clean, sleek bun. She wasn't wearing any makeup other than a nude lipstick. She picked up her bag containing everything she could need. She stared at herself one more time in the mirror and smiled, stepping out of her home and into a new life.
The building appeared to get larger and larger as she approached, her heart pounding faster and faster. She clutched her bag tighter, glancing at her reflection in windows at nearby shops and cars.
She stood outside the entrance, breathing in the air, before finally going inside.
The inside was pristine white. The smell of disinfectant covering the halls. Muffled voices filling the entire room.
"Welcome," A woman wearing a clean tortoise shirt approached Umbra. "Judging from your uniform, you must be a nurse, and since I have never seen you, you must be Umbra, the new hire, correct?"
'That is correct." Umbra smiled professionally.
"Great to finally meet you Umbra, I'm Mia." She stated, shaking Umbra's hand. "If you follow me, I'll take you to your locker and you can get started with you first tasks." She took Umbra behind the counter and into the staff room, passing a few of her new coworkers along the way. Finally reaching a quiet room at the end of the hall. "We're here." Mia declared.
The room was spotless; the white marble floor seemed to be shining. The smell of disinfectant still present, mixed with another scent which Umbra didn't recognize. Most of the wall space was taken by rows of lockers. Mia led her to her locker, the words 'Umbra' etched into a metal plate plastered on the locker.
"Here," Mia handed her a key "Don't lose it." she spoke, still smiling.
"Of course, I'll keep it safe." Umbra responded, opening her locker. Inside was empty except for a tag with her name on it. She pinned it to her scrub, right above where her heart is.
"Put everything you don't need in the locker and then we can get started with your first task as a nurse!"
