The days are colder now that December has rolled around. Kilkeel, Northern Ireland is now glittering with snow and the sea waters are now ripe for trawling. Idonea should be off the shore with her crew that is now boarding the 'Gregor's Best'. No, she is at her apartment packing her things away in boxes labeled haphazardly with what is in them.
She was on the corded phone dressed in her oversized purple jacket and jeans, talking a while with a downcast expression on her face. Telling her boss that she will no longer work for the company and will be moving out shortly. It ended with some curt farewells and that she is free to come work for them any time in the future. They all say that, but she can't ever return to a place that might give away her secret of being immortal. Even more so, they truly never mean what they say. So, keeping that pragmatism makes it easier for the she-wolf to just cut it off as soon as possible by making certain to say that it can never happen. She hung up with a sigh, going back to taping the boxes shut, then taking one box at a time to the rental van. Mrs Rombart met Idonea at the door saying her last famous hateful terms.
But Idonea never hated the widow, telling the landlady finally that she greatly appreciated being given this apartment room for so long. Even saying that someday she'd hope that Mrs Rombart would finally see her son again. After all, he went missing after he suddenly got bitten by some random junkie.
The old landlady would scoff irritated but sniffled when Idonea finally had her last box in the back of the van. It was either that this landlady was truly sad to see her tenant go or sadder because Idonea is one of the few that actually paid for her residence. Hard to say with Mrs Rombart.
The movers took the van away and she rode in a taxi to follow it. This taxi only followed it for so long until it changed routes, chasing the signs to the port of Dublin. She was going there to take a ship...the whole ride to the port was silent and all she could think of was the life she was leaving behind.
When the Dublin ports finally came into view and the taxi driver parked, she paid the man hurriedly and got out of the taxi with just a bag on her back. She sauntered to the port requesting a one-way trip, one that took her from here all the way to Sweden.
The Ticketmaster asked for a passport, chewing his gum obnoxiously. She took notice of his tailored maroon blazer fitting so tight on his stocky body, the necktie and his collar were loosened to relieve some of the strain on his sweaty neck. He looked sweaty even though the air was brisk from the morning snowfall.
She gracefully provided a passport to this plump-sweaty individual, this one being real with her actual name and photo.
The Ticketmaster saw nothing wrong with it, smacking his chewing when he blindly asked, "Where are ya off to in such a hurry, lass?"
Her yellow eyes blinked at the Ticketmaster, then peered behind her at the empty queue line. Expecting to find someone there, seeing no one, she sighed, feeling even lonelier in this queue. "Just going home...."
"Ye don't look thrilled about it." His comment was insensitive, but she was quick to answer it. It was not like he was going to help her or anything.
"It hasn't been home for a long time. Now where is my ticket?"
He handed her ticket and passport back, snorting 'Good luck.'
She gathered her identification and her ticket, grumbling but not having enough of a fight in her to do anything about his snide remark. Just paid and moved on.
She boarded the next ship to Sweden, staring out from the boat expecting to see a certain individual following her despite her last warnings. No such person came, and it made her feel like a castaway on an island. As the ship hooted its last warnings, it sailed away from the port, and she thought of ways to swim back. The chilly wind danced through her shoulder-length hair; the only thing that holds her locks down is a familiar wolf hair clip.
The feeling of true dread sits heavy in the center of her chest because the last thing she could ever want is to return to her pack...
But here she is, stupidly on her way back after two hundred years.
Did you miss me...at all...mother?
