Author's Preface
After a relaxing shower and having put on a new, fresh set of comfortable clothes, Davis was about to sit down on his bed, but he heard his bell. So, he opened the door.
Behind the door stood a very short girl, barely even half of Davis' height. She wore a helmet covering most of her head, though leaving her face mostly open. The only thing on her face was a pair of big glasses. Her brown, almost reddish hair was positioned thanks ot the helmet so that it came down only to her back, and due to her shorter figure, her hair went below her knees.
On her back was a large backpack, almost the size of her entire body, which she immediately put down as soon as the door opened but just left on the ground for the time being.
"H-hey Davis!"
"Oh hi, Fian! Are you still working this early? Though late would be more accurate, I guess..."
"Well, I was about to leave for today but saw your order and decided to take up the delivery, since I practically live next door."
"Oh, thank you; that was very kind of you. To be honest, I was quite surprised to hear the bell so soon, but your speed is just as good as ever."
"Oh, don't mention it, but you know, since rent was increased again, taking on an extra delivery means a bit more security at the end."
"Yes, I understand. The bastard increased the bill again, so be very careful; make sure not to buy anything until it is deducted."
Hearing Davis' words, the girl shook her head and tilted her head to the side slightly.
"Again? It was increased just a month ago! And without warning, that is! If it keeps going up like this, renting this shithole will cost just as much as a three-room flat where I could at least have my own kitchen!"
"Yeah, I hope at least work is not that difficult... I personally just quit my job because I finally managed to find a better one with a more stable salary. My boss once again worked me to the bone, promising me a raise, but no, I received none at all."
"I can't complain; fortunately, my situation is slightly better than it was. Wait, you just quit? Does that mean he needs to run his store alone this evening?"
"Not only that, but he had some personal plans which now need to be cancelled. Oh, I wish I could see his face."
Fian only chuckled as she finally opened her backpack and pulled out a paper box from it. She quickly looked around the corridor, then handed it over to Davis. Only to then move back to the bag and pull out a device which looked like a phone.
Davis just took two steps, put the box onto his messy bed, and then stepped back over to Fian. Who by that time was already handing the device over to him.
He swiftly grabbed it and touched it with his index finger, confirming that he had gotten his package, and then came the part which he always skipped. The tip portion: being barely able to always make ends meet, he never tipped, but now he had a solid income.
He decided to give 4.5 Credit as a tip, mostly because he wanted to buy six of that multiplier without having any excess Spent Credit. As soon as he tipped the amount, it requested another fingerprint verification, which he once again completed.
"What the hell are you doing? Why are you... That is almost half an hour of money! Are you out of your mind? Why?"
"Oh, you got yourself one of those digi glasses? Also, I don't know how much your rent increased compared to mine, but I wouldn't want to lose you just because of that increase!"
"Y-yes, though it is a used one, but still! I have insurance!"
"Yeah, I heard how great those insurance companies are. They save you, sure, but you practically become a slave! Either way, you could treat me to a cheap dinner in the future if you're so against this!"
"B-but still!"
"By the way, how do you like your new digi glasses?"
"You will keep evading it, I see... Fine... As for the glasses, they are a huge help! Navigation is easy, and I can immediately read any new message or notification. But they are an older model and have seen better days. Although I can see that they are trying to adjust to my eyesight, sometimes I can barely see anything. During those times, I think I could see better even without glasses."
She explained as she took the reader from Davis' hand, put it back into her bag, and then stretched her back and arms. Then pulled her phone out.
"Also, although it does have a minimalistic interface, it is not going to replace my phone in terms of finalising my delivery; maybe if I had bought a newer one, but that would have been almost double its price."
"Oh, I see! By the way, I was thinking, now that I managed to find a much better job, I can afford to spend a bit more on better food. Why don't we work a bit together? You let me know when you are about to finish, son, in case I order something I can time it perfectly. I get a very punctual delivery, and you get an extra delivery bonus while going home."
"Yeah, I can do that, and it would be nice as well! But if you will excuse me, I need to go home and finish the delivery paperwork as well. See you later, Davis!"
"Yeah, sure! Take care!"
The two waved at one another, and Fian put her bag back on her back, moved two doors further, and opened a door on the opposite side of the wall. Davis sighed and closed the door, and the moment he did that, he once again saw her progress.
"
Quest progress:
Spent Credit: 60/100
"
He grinned, then finally mumbled.
"Let's see what this amounts to. To that simulation world!"
"Transporting to the world of simulation!"
